10 Basic Customer Service Tips to Keep Your Customers Happy
Great Customer Service Equals Customer Satisfaction
Anyone can staff, stock, and ring up customers, but not everyone can make their customers happy. Customer Service is the number one priority in any business, if this isn't on the top of the list, there are going to be some serious issues within that store. The following are my 10 basic tips that will keep your customers happy, and coming back for more products.
Tip 1: Talking to the customers, make them feel wanted and appreciated. If they know the atmosphere of the store is friendly, and the workers are not standing robots, they will develop a relationship with the workers. This will not only help increase your customer count, but it may increase the amount they buy during that particular visit.
Tip 2: Be courteous and understanding, when it comes to issues dealing with customers. Some issues may be a complaint about the restroom condition is below standards. Don't give them a smart remark, just be courteous, acknowledge their concerns, and follow it up with what they want to hear, not what you want to say.
Tip 3: How complaints are handled, will make or break customer service. In order to keep the complaints to a minimum, great all around customer service has to be provided. Just because the store has great sales, that doesn't particularly mean they will come to the store.
Tip 4: Take advantage of the customer opportunities that come up in the store, and learn how to recognize them. For instance, if a customer is standing in the isle looking confused, hmmm, they probably need help finding something. This type of action will get customers talking, and they love to be acknowledged and helped. This type of customer service will go a long way in the eyes of the customer.
Tip 5: Make sure the store is neat, organized, easy to shop, and relaxing. Customers will stay longer if they are comfortable, and if they stay longer, they will most likely buy more.
Tip 6: When having big sales or any type of sales, make sure all advertised items are in stock. Nothing puts a customer in a state of ire faster than the clerk telling them, "sorry, we’re out." Make sure plenty of products are ordered, because the customers will come back if they know they are going to get what they want, and not a wasted trip to the store.
Tip 7: Make sure there is staff on the floor to assist customers, especially during the busiest times. Some customers will walk right out the door if there isn't anyone to assist them.
Tip 8: Having knowledgeable and trained staff to assist customers is imperative. The excuse of being new only last for so long. Eventually, customers grow weary of that excuse.
Tip 9: Provide the customers with an easy exchange or refund policy. Don't make their life miserable over a few dollars. Make the transaction easy and fast; they love it when they don't have to explain themselves or bicker with the manager.
Tip 10: The hours of operation should coincide with your geographical area. If there are many night owls out there, make the store a twenty-four store. Don't lose sales because the store hours don't cater to the customers.
These are my 10 basic tips for providing great customer service. If these tips are used, the customer service rating will go up tremendously, and customers will return. Remember, the customer stars in this show: if you want their money, you're going to have to earn it.
